Sump Pumps
It is illegal to drain your sump pumps into the city sewer system. Violators may be fined up to $200 per day.

2005 Revised Ordinances of Menno, SD
Chapter 29, Section 29-6 (G) & Chapter 1, Section 1-9

We have two pumps that pump alternately at the sewer lift station. When one pump is done, the other one starts, so pretty much, a pump is running constantly. Everything that is drained into the city sewer systems goes through these pumps into the ponds. We normally discharge our ponds once a year. In 2007, we had to discharge 3 times.

The pumps we have are wearing out and new ones need to be ordered; we do not have a spare. They cost $3500 each and there is a 12-week wait to get one. (This is one reason your rates go up.)

PLEASE – DO NOT DRAIN YOUR SUMP PUMPS INTO THE CITY SEWER! RUN A HOSE OUTSIDE.

ELECTION RESULTS
MUNICIPALITY OF MENNO

Mayor:
Darrell J. Mehlhaf 206
Roger Simonsen 87

Ward I:
Aaron Matthaei 36
Jerry Fischer 85

ATTENTION

The City of Menno is issuing a plea for individuals to become EMT’s as our ambulance service is critically short on personnel. The City will pay the cost of the course for any individual willing to sign a contract to ACTIVELY serve with the Menno Ambulance Service for a period of two-years. Contact Director Marsha Schelske at 387-5555 or Finance Officer Peggy Thranum at 387-2427 for further information.

Attention:
Due to the high cost of repairs for the lift station pumps –
PLEASE – DO NOT

Flush sanitary products (tampons) down the toilet.

Thank you. City of Menno

NOTICE
MOWING LOTS AND
SPRAYING WEEDS

Anyone that owns property within the Menno City limits is hereby notified that the property needs to be properly mown (any grass or weeds exceeding the height of 7 inches) and sprayed for weeds.

If any property owner fails to do this, the city will mow and/or spray the property and will assess the costs incurred by such action by special assessment against the real property. The City will charge $40.00 per hour to mow and/or spray.
