NOTICE
POOL MANAGER WANTED

   The City of Menno is accepting applications for pool manager. Applicant must be 18 years of age or older and CPR certified.

     Manager would be in charge of running the pool. Duties would include, but not limited to: all job assignments, work schedule for lifeguards, overseeing gate receipts, pool samples, cleaning the pool, cleaning the bathhouses & concession stand and ordering supplies. Manager would run the concession stand as their own. Salary negotiable.

     Submit applications to the City Finance Office at 236 S Fifth Street, PO Box 432, Menno, SD 57045-0432 before 5:00 p.m. on, Friday, February 3,

2012.

     The City reserves the right to reject any and all applications.

     Applications will be presented to the Council at their regular meeting on February 6, 2012.

Notice

Hearing on Application for Temporary Malt Beverage Permit

   The Menno City Council will hold a hearing at their regular council meeting February 6, 2012 in the finance office at city hall for the purpose of hearing an application for the sale of alcoholic beverages.

   The following application will be considered:

Temporary Malt Beverage Permit to the American Legion on February 18, 2012 at the Menno Legion Hall

   Any person(s) interested in the approval or rejection of such application may appear and be heard at this time.

MENNO SCHOOL DISTRICT 33-2

The following offices will become vacant due to the expiration of the present term of office of the elective officer:

Circulation of nominating petitions may begin on January 27, 2012 and petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer located at 236 S Fifth Street, Menno, SD Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., central standard time - not later than 5:00 p.m. the 24th day of February, 2012.

The following school board position will become vacant due to the expiration of the present term of office of the following board member

The vacancy is to be filled by candidates living anywhere in the Menno school district. 

Circulation of nominating petitions may begin on January 27, 2012 and may be filed in the office of the business manager located at the Menno School, 410 S 5th Street, Menno, South Dakota between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. central standard time not later than the 24th day of February, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., or mailed by registered mail not later than the 24th day of February, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.

WARNING

NO SUMP PUMP SHOULD BE EMPTYING INTO THE SEWER.

Section 29-6 (G) of the City Ordinances refers to no person making connection of a sump pump to the public sanitary sewer. A violation of this section subjects a person to a fine up to $200.

MOWING LOTS AND
SPRAYING WEEDS

Anyone that owns property within the Menno City limits is hereby notified that the property needs to be properly mown (any grass or weeds exceeding the height of 7 inches) and sprayed for weeds.

If any property owner fails to do this, the city will mow and/or spray the property and will assess the costs incurred by such action by special assessment against the real property. The City will charge $40.00 per hour to mow and/or spray.

ORDINANCE NO. 2011 – 1

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE 2005 REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF MENNO, SOUTH DAKOTA FOR THE PURPOSE OF REGULATING THE REMOVAL OF SNOW IN THE CITY OF MENNO, HUTCHINSON COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY OF MENNO, HUTCHINSON COUNTY, SOUTH DAKOTA, that the 2005 Revised Ordinances of the City of Menno, South Dakota be amended to add a new section which shall read as follows 

Chapter 31, Section 31-5 shall be added to provide:

Section 31-5 Snow Creating Nuisance.

No person shall remove snow from private property and place the same upon the streets, public ways or sidewalks of the city, except it shall be lawful for a person to remove snow which shall naturally be upon the sidewalks and place the same upon the streets and ways of the city.  Nor shall any person move snow from the streets, alleys and ways of the city and pile or place it in such a manner as to create a public nuisance as that term is defined in Section 22-2. 

Street as used in this section shall mean that portion dedicated to the public, including those areas adjoining the traveled portion of the street which are commonly used for parking.

In addition to the general penalty for violating an ordinance of the city as set forth in Section 1-9, such person causing a snow nuisance shall also be responsible for the cost of removing such nuisance.  The cost of removing a nuisance shall be the actual cost incurred by the city or based upon the labor and equipment rental rates policy of the City of Menno, whichever shall be more.  If such cost is not paid by such person causing the snow nuisance within 30 days of being presented with a statement for such cost, the cost may be assessed against the property abutting the location from where the snow originated.

The City of Menno is issuing a plea for individuals to become EMT’s as our ambulance service is critically short on personnel. The City will pay the cost of the course for any individual willing to sign a contract to ACTIVELY serve with the Menno Ambulance Service for a period of two-years. Contact Director Marsha Schelske at 387-5555 or Finance Officer Peggy Thranum at 387-2427 for further information.
