Sump Pumps
It is illegal to drain your sump pumps into the city sewer system. Violators may be fined up to $200 per day.

2005 Revised Ordinances of Menno, SD
Chapter 29, Section 29-6 (G) & Chapter 1, Section 1-9

We have two pumps that pump alternately at the sewer lift station. When one pump is done, the other one starts, so pretty much, a pump is running constantly. Everything that is drained into the city sewer systems goes through these pumps into the ponds. We normally discharge our ponds once a year. In 2007, we had to discharge 3 times.

The pumps we have are wearing out and new ones need to be ordered; we do not have a spare. They cost $3500 each and there is a 12-week wait to get one. (This is one reason your rates go up.)

PLEASE – DO NOT DRAIN YOUR SUMP PUMPS INTO THE CITY SEWER! RUN A HOSE OUTSIDE.
