MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL

MENNO, SOUTH DAKOTA

March 15, 2010

 

The purpose of this meeting was to review and correct the assessments of the taxing district for the year 2010.

 

Present at this meeting were: Mayor Darrell Mehlhaf, Councilmen Ronald Diede, Jerry Fischer, Galen Guthmiller, Jerome Hoff, Jerome Kotalik, Scott Simonsen, School District Representative Kevin Edelman and Finance Officer Peggy Thranum. Darlene Schempp and Aaron Matthaei were also present.

 

Mayor Mehlhaf called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.

 

Hoff moved to approve the agenda. Fischer seconded; all ayes.

 

The first appeal to be heard was from Darlene Schempp. She feels the assessed value of her house and property is too high and asked the council to lower the assessment.

 

After reviewing similar properties, Guthmiller moved to recommend lowering the assessed value on the following property by $8000 and that the Director of Equalization re-evaluate the property. Diede seconded; roll call – all ayes.

 

     Darlene Schempp – Parcel Number: 250.30.04.A14 – Lot 4A1 of Lot A of O L 4, City of Menno, (T) 97N, (R) 57W, NE Ό Section 9 – Lower assessed value of

NA-D-S from $2245 to $2061 and NA-D1-S from $40,570 to $32,754. Local board of equalization recommends review of the property.

 

The second appeal heard was from Aaron Matthaei. He stated his value has increased 21% and felt this is too high.

 

Following review of properties the council felt similar, Hoff moved to request the following property be reviewed by the Director of Equalization. Simonsen seconded; roll call – all ayes.

 

     Aaron Matthaei – Parcel Number: 250.10.02.E07 – E 84’ of Lot 7 & E 84’ Lot 8 Less N 30’ E 48’ of Lot 8, Block 2, Original Plat of the City of Menno, (T) 97N,

(R) 57W, NE Ό Section 9 – Local board of equalization recommends review of the property.

 

Guthmiller moved to adjourn at 7:03 p.m. Diede seconded; all ayes.
