MINUTES OF CITY COUNCIL

MENNO, SOUTH DAKOTA

May 17, 2011

The purpose of this meeting was to consider releasing Maxwell Colony from their pipe bid, consider other quotes for pipe and allowing the bars to remain open and sell alcohol Sunday, July 3 until 2 a.m.

Answering Roll Call: Mayor Darrell Mehlhaf, Councilmen Ronald Diede, Galen Guthmiller, Jerome Hoff, Jerome Kotalik and Scott Simonsen. Jerry Fischer was absent. Finance Officer Peggy Thranum and Editor Erik Kaufman were also present.

Mayor Mehlhaf called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM.

Kotalik moved to approve the agenda. Guthmiller seconded; all ayes.

Maxwell Colony asked to be released from the bid for storm sewer pipe we had approved at the May 2 council meeting after the order for pipe had been placed because pipe prices had gone up.

The mayor checked to see what our legal options were: Release them from the bid, then we’d have no bids and we could seek quotes; re-bid and change the specs or take legal action and make them stick to the bid. If supplies purchased are under $25,000, we don’t have to bid.

Diede moved to release Maxwell Colony from the bid for storm sewer pipe in the amount of $26,228.27.. Guthmiller seconded; roll call-all ayes.
