MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING

MENNO CITY COUNCIL

July 28, 2011

The purpose of this meeting was to figure the 2012 Budget.

Mayor Mehlhaf called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Answering roll call: Mayor Darrell Mehlhaf, Councilmen: Ronald Diede, Jerry Fischer, Galen Guthmiller (entered at 6:05 p.m.), Jerome Hoff, Jerome Kotalik and Scott Simonsen and Finance Officer Peggy Thranum.

Kotalik moved to approve the agenda as presented. Hoff seconded; all ayes.

Diede moved to approve the financial reports received from the Menno Athletic Club, Menno Baseball Association and the Menno Heritage Society Museum. Fischer seconded; all ayes. Funds for these organizations are figured into the budget.

The city is paying for the library books directly now, so no separate contribution will be made to the library.

Any funds set aside for future land development will be for the purchase of land only and need to be used in the year they are budgeted.

Guthmiller moved to raise the price of a cemetery plot to $200 effective September 1, 2011. Simonsen seconded; all ayes.

The council determined tuck pointing the gym is essential, but we do not have the money to remodel the gym bathrooms.

6:45 p.m. Marilee Hauck and Carol Harvey entered the meeting. They discussed needs at the museum and asked for the council’s support. The roof on the Schmidt house needs to be shingled. The ladies left at 7:56 p.m.

For budget purposes, a 30 cent per hour raise was figured for all full-time and regular part-time employees. Salaries for monthly employees were figured with a 3% increase.

The council discussed placing tile down the middle of Railway Street from the intersection of Poplar Street to the intersection of Juniper Street to help drain the water away from the street. Repairs to Heil Street were also discussed. The council decided we would do these projects ourselves to save money.

Hoff moved to adjourn at 8:17 p.m. Simonsen seconded; all ayes.
