Committee Reports: Everyone is encouraged to email community events
information to tjean81@yahoo.com and Tammy will post it ASAP!
The lodging list on the
web site has been updated to only show the Menno Lake, Olivet Park, and Ambush
Acres. The Department of Revenue notified our private lodging listings to
inform them they needed a sales tax license. After the second phone call I
received asking to have their name removed from the listing, we decided to
removal them all. All our private listings fell under SDCL 10-45-7 because they
were only for casual or occasional sleeping accommodations for ten or less days
per calendar year, which means they do not need a sales tax license.
Glenn Kirschenman reported
a good turn out for the Career Fair held in Parker on February 8. He stated he
thought it was a good thing for the kids to participate in. There were 25
colleges or trade schools represented and 17 businesses, for a total of 42
booths.
Nancy Larsen stated 206
students attended; 33 more were signed up, but were home sick. They
participated in simulated job interviews and a workshop about “Turning Your
Assets into Money”.
The committee hasn’t
looked at the motel yet, so they had nothing to report. Ken Stepanek stated the
wiring and plumbing would have to be completely redone.
Cindy Aisenbrey informed
us Ed’s Food Market is for sale. They would like to have it sold by July 1,
2006 and if they don’t, they may close it and sell off the inventory at that
time.
Thranum stated she’d had a
request from Spain about Menno and had sent brochures.
Our next meeting will be
held at the Open Door at 12 noon on March 15, 2005.
Brenda Edelman made a
motion to adjourn at 12:55 p.m. Brent Haberman seconded, all present in favor.
Respectfully submitted,
Peggy Thranum, Secretary
