The Menno Area Development Corporation held its regular meeting at the Open Door Café on May 17 with the following in attendance: Peg Thranum, Darlene Mehlhaf, Bill Headley, Morna Anderson, David Bender, Nancy Larsen, Marsha Schelske, Dale Weiss, Larry Tolzin, Brent Haberman, Shannon Herrboldt, Cindy Aisenbrey, Dennis Aisenbrey, Cindy Nelsen, Donna Zeeb, Brenda Edelman, Jim Jibbens, and Dorothy Harnisch.

President Dale Weiss called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m.

Marsha Schelske moved to approve the agenda. Cindy Aisenbrey seconded, all present in favor.

Larry Tolzin made a motion to approve the April 19 minutes and the May finance report. Donna Zeeb seconded, all present in favor.

Nancy Larsen stated Tripp and Parkston have joined SEFP. She and members of the board made an SEFP presentation to the Hutchinson County Commissioners.

Committee Reports: No report on the web page this month.

Weiss stated we are waiting for the purchase agreement from our lawyer to finalize the purchase on the motel. When the papers are ready, we will proceed with the purchase.

The playground fundraiser is Saturday, July 2. Registration is from 10-2, so we should have the bars or cookies there by 9:30 a.m. We will have a basket for donations. We haven’t heard from Thrivent if we will get matching funds yet. The council awarded the bid for the playground equipment to Crouch/Churchich, representatives for Miracle Recreation Equipment Company.

Weiss took the logo back to the arts department, but since school is out, nothing has been done on that. Cindy Aisenbrey stated she would talk to Amanda Orth and William Schultz to see if they could design a logo for us and present it at the next meeting.

Shannon Herrboldt went to the last alumni meeting to talk about the poker run. He has a route in mind, but may do some things different. He will report back at the next meeting.

Dale Weiss has posters and tickets for advance sales for the carnival that will be here July 1-4. He will contact businesses to see if they would like to sell them again. He will contact All American Inflatables to reconfirm their commitment.

A couple businesses said they would donate money to see if we could interest some area high school bands in marching in the Fourth of July parade. Weiss sent out notices and emails, but hasn’t heard back from anyone.

The Community Club will sponsor some music in the park if the group they want is available.

Jim Jibbens met with the group and expressed his interest in running the motel and/or purchasing it from us.

Our next meeting will be our annual meeting, held at the Open Door at 12 noon on June 21, 2005. Two three-year terms on the board of directors will be voted on. Dale Weiss and Peggy Thranum currently hold these seats.

Cindy Aisenbrey made a motion to adjourn at 12:55 p.m. Larry Tolzin seconded, all present in favor.

Respectfully submitted,

Peggy Thranum, Secretary
