David Bender made a motion to approve the minutes of the January 17 meeting and the February finance report. Darlene Mehlhaf seconded, all present in favor.

Nancy Larsen gave the SEFP report. She reported working with two new clients in Menno. In spite of the extreme cold temperatures, 24 businesses and 14 colleges participated in the career fair. Comments from participants were very positive.

Weiss made a motion to put a thank you in the paper thanking those that helped make the career fair a success by their participation.  Herman seconded, all present in favor; motion carried.

Committee Reports: A couple looked at the motel. Their idea was to turn it into a “strip mall” with all types of little businesses; i.e. video arcade, antiques, etc.

The Parkston Development Corporation will be contacted to see what type of requirements they have on the land they have for development.

Lee Friesen is waiting for information from the Aisenbrey’s before he can continue with his proposals for the grocery store. Reportedly there are two private individuals interested in purchasing the store.

The books for the Menno Clinic have been turned over to us. Thranum reported the insurance is due and half the taxes. It was decided not to have Terrorism Insurance. The outstanding loan on the clinic is $12,531.90. Discussion was had on how to pay off the loan, but no decision was made at this time. Bender made a motion to pay the $500 yearly fee for insurance and $683.55 for half the taxes. Marsha Schelske seconded; all present in favor; motion carried.

Dave Bender is working on ideas for an ad campaign to encourage shopping in Menno that would feature a half page ad and monthly drawing.

Our next meeting will be March 21 at the Open Door Café at 12:00 noon.

Gary Schelske made a motion to adjourn at 1:00 p.m. Brenda Edelman seconded, all present in favor.

Respectfully submitted,

Peggy Thranum, Secretary
