Menno Area Development Corporation

The Menno Area Development Corporation held their regular meeting August 19, 2008 at the Open Door Café with the following present: Peggy Thranum, Bruce Anderson, Wilma Liebl, Morna Anderson, Dorothy Harnisch, David Bender, Arlene Bertsch, Bill Headley, Judy Headley, Larry Tolzin, Larry Zeeb, Glenn Kirschenman, Dale Weiss, Chris Christensen, Connie Knodel,  Brent Haberman, Dennis Aisenbrey, Shannon Herrboldt, Marsha Schelske, Donna Zeeb, Ken Bertsch, Calvin Hagge, Alice Hagge, Ken Stepanek and Nancy Larsen.

 

President Weiss called the meeting to order at 12.20 p.m.

 

David Bender moved to approve the agenda as presented. Marsha Schelske seconded; carried

 

Wilma Liebl moved to approve the minutes of the July 15th meeting with one correction, “the antique tractor pull is August 24, 2008 at Pioneer Acres, not the 23rd.” Connie Knodel seconded; carried.

 

Marsha Schelske moved to approve the finance report. Shannon Herrboldt seconded; carried

 

SEFP REPORT: Nancy Larsen reported SEFP was not chosen as one of the eight finalists for Dakota Rising. Nancy is one of 43 being certified as a NDC (National Development Center) EDFP (Economic Development Finance Professional. ) She handed out the 2008 Semi-Annual Report.

 

Car Show: Herrboldt said everything was coming along fine. They could use more judges and help to set up seating at 8 a.m. on Saturday.

 

Band Day: Tolzin said everything is coming along fine. He has eight people monitoring the button sales. Trudi Schaeffer set up the prize display in Smidt Appliance’s window. Northern State College Band will be a guest band; their drum line will perform at the football field following the performances on Fifth Street.

 

Business: Peggy and Dale took information to the Corp of Discovery Welcome Center for a display to promote our up-coming events. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone had pictures of our events they would loan us for the display next year.

 

Marsha said she had pulled and sprayed weeds on the empty lot on 5th Street.

 

Dorothy Harnisch reported Jack Knutson started 1st grade. His grandmother, Mary Rook, wants to say THANK YOU to those who helped Jack with his therapy.

 

Our next meeting is September 16 at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at city hall.
