Menno Area Development Corporation

The Menno Area Development Corporation held their annual meeting July 15, 2008 at the Open Door Café with the following members and guests present: Peggy Thranum, Darlene Mehlhaf, Morna Anderson, Jerome Hoff, Dennis Aisenbrey, Chris Christensen, Judy Headley, Bill Headley, Connie Knodel, Brenda Edelman, Shannon Herrboldt, Marsha Schelske, Brent Haberman, Dale Weiss, Cindy Aisenbrey, Cindy Nelsen, Ken Bertsch, Ken Stepanek, Gary Schelske, Stephanie Heckenlaible and Teresa Anderson.

 

President Weiss called the meeting to order at 12:20 p.m.

 

Marsha Schelske moved to approve the agenda as presented. Knodel seconded; carried.

 

Herrboldt moved to approve the minutes as presented. Edelman seconded; carried.

 

Marsha Schelske moved to approve the finance report as presented. Knodel seconded; carried.

 

SEFP REPORT: The SEFP report was included in the packets. Nancy Larsen is attending Dakota Rising training in Chamberlain as SEFP has been chosen as one of the eight finalists.

 

Weiss thanked JD Edelman for his help in erecting the fence on the lots on Fifth Street, as well as Jim Woehl, Bruce Anderson and Del Ray Edelman for digging the holes. The fence was completed before July 4.

 

Car Show – A sample of what the car show t-shirts will look like was passed around. They will sell for $10 each. The cost for sponsoring a class of trophies for the car show is $35; there are 9 classes. Judges are needed. Anyone that can help set up benches along the street, show up at 8 a.m. August 23. Anyone that wishes to donate prizes, drop them off at Classic Collision.

 

Business: Sarah Ebeling will send out letters concerning the Menno Visitor’s & New Resident’s Guide on July 21. If she can sell enough advertising, she will put a guide together for Menno. She hopes to have it ready for the Power Show.

 

We will set up a table to advertise Menno events at the Corp of Discovery Welcome Center. Our events will be promoted from August 16-22. This is a benefit of membership to the Corp.

 

An antique tractor pull will be held at the Power Show grounds on August 23.

 

Weiss introduced and welcomed Chris Christensen, the new school CEO.

 

Due to changes in their lives, Cindy Nelsen announced the Garden Gate will close by the end of August if it hasn’t sold. She will continue to landscape, but from her home in Yankton. She opened the business 9 years ago. Good luck Cindy!

 

Our next meeting will be held August 19, 2008 beginning at 12:00 noon at the Open Door Café.
