The agenda was approved as presented with the addition of Oktoberfest and Welcome Wagon Committee Report.
The minutes stand approved as presented.
The finance report will stand approved as presented following a clarification that the rent on the Swain property is $150 per month. It was noted that the taxes on the property were paid in full.
Committee Reports: Grocery Store – Peg Thranum reported the 177 page Energy Grant for new coolers at the grocery store was signed and mailed yesterday. Nancy Larsen deserves all the credit for that because we could have never done it without her. Many positive comments have been heard concerning the store. Any suggestions for improvements are welcome. A meeting for the investors of the grocery store will be held this Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the Legion.
Poker Run – Peg said Shannon Herrboldt had called to say the poker run is scheduled for Saturday, May 10 beginning and ending at the Beer Garden in Menno. The start time has yet to be determined.
Car Show – Shannon found someone that is willing to sponsor 150 t-shirts for the car show at no cost to us. Connie Knodel made a motion to order 125 t-shirts for the car show. Wilma Liebl seconded; all present in favor.
Brenda Edelman made a motion to allow Sarah Ebeling to pursue doing a Menno Visitor’s and New Resident’s Guide. Morna Anderson seconded; all present in favor. The magazine should be ready in time for the Power Show.
Brenda Edelman made a motion to do one week of advertising at the Corp of Discovery Welcome Center for the Menno Car Show in August, if we can only promote one event. If we can promote others, we will promote the Car Show, July 4th, Band Day, the Power Show and Oktoberfest. Wilma Liebl seconded, all present in favor.
Arlene Bertsch stated the Oktoberfest committee was looking for help with the event. It was suggested they contact the youth of the community (church, FFA, FCCLA and 4-H groups) to assist them.
Welcome Wagon: Teresa Anderson is still gathering information for this project. She suggested placing an ad in the paper; this will be discussed at the next meeting.
Dorothy Harnisch stated someone from Pierre thought we should fix up the grocery store building.
Our next meeting will be held May 20, 2008 beginning at 12:00 noon at the Open Door Café
Brenda Edelman moved to adjourn at 12:50 p.m. Connie Knodel seconded, all present in favor; motion carried.
Respectfully submitted,
Peggy Thranum, Secretary
