Menno Area Development Corporation
July 21, 2009
The Menno Area Development Corporation met for its regular meeting July 21, 2009 at the Open Door Café with the following present: Peg Thranum, Darlene Mehlhaf, Bill Headley, Judy Headley, David Bender, Nancy Larsen, Morna Anderson, Teresa Anderson, Arlene Bertsch, Marsha Schelske, Shannon Herrboldt, Dennis Aisenbrey and Donna Zeeb.
With a quorum present, President Dale Weiss declared the June 16th meeting out of recess at 12:15 p.m.
There was a motion on the floor to elect Shannon Herrboldt to a three-year term on the board of directors. Marsha Schelske moved that nominations cease and cast an unanimous ballot for Herrboldt. Teresa Anderson seconded; motion carried.
David Bender moved to have Tom Ulmer spray the lots on Fifth Street. Dennis Aisenbrey seconded; motion carried.
David Bender moved to adjourn the June 16 annual meeting at 12.17 p.m. Darlene Mehlhaf seconded; motion carried.
President Weiss called the July 21 meeting to order at 12:17 p.m.
Bill Headley moved, David Bender seconded, to approve the agenda; motion carried.
Judy Headley moved to accept the minutes as presented. Shannon Herrboldt seconded,; motion carried.
David Bender moved, Marsha Schelske seconded, to approve the finance report; motion carried.
SEFP REPORT: Nancy Larsen reported SEFP received a RBEG grant, which will allow her to continue to work with existing clients outside the SEFP area. She attended the National Economic
Gardening Conference (NEGC) at Ft. Sisseton. There were 73 attendees from all over the world! “Gardening” focuses on identifying local individual businesses and inviting them to participate in research to find new markets for their products and services.
Committee Reports: Housing – Judy Headley spoke with Elton Lehr. He has no land available for development at this time. The housing committee consists of Judy Headley, Shannon Herrboldt and Darlene Mehlhaf.
Car Show – We will go back to “People’s Choice” for trophies for the car show on September 12 since it is too hard to find people willing to be judges. The fire department and museum will serve lunch that evening.
Dale Weiss stated our new grocery store manager is Shawn Black. He had managed stores in Nebraska and Iowa, then Yankton before coming to Menno.
Band Day – The school will be in charge of Band Day this year. It will be held September 25.
Weiss reported Tom Ulmer would remove the trees on our High Street lot for $150 per tree. It was the consensus of the group to just trim the trees for now so they don’t scrape the vehicles.
Our next meeting will be August 18 at the Open Door Café at 12:00 noon.
