Menno Area Development Corporation

The Menno Area Development Corporation met for its regular meeting November 17, 2009 at the Open Door Café with the following present: Peg Thranum, Bill Headley, Darlene Mehlhaf, Morna Anderson, David Bender, Nancy Larsen, Judy Headley, Shawn Black, Ken Bertsch, Arlene Bertsch, Bruce Anderson, Teresa Anderson, Dale Weiss, Marsha Schelske, Donna Zeeb and Jerome Hoff.
President Weiss called the meeting to order at 12:20 p.m.
Ken Bertsch moved, Bender seconded, to approve the agenda as presented; motion carried.
Ken Bertsch moved to approve the minutes as presented, Schelske seconded; motion carried.
Ken Bertsch moved, Teresa Anderson seconded, to approve the finance report; motion carried. We sent a plant to Lil’ Bits for their opening and to welcome them to our business community.
SEFP REPORT: Larsen stated SEFP may be conducting a face-to-face survey with community business owners to find out what their needs are, what is working and what is not. We need to understand the barriers business owners face in order to address the issues.
Housing – Judy Headley reported the committee met with a developer to discuss plans for the land we own along US Highway 18. Plans will be created for 2-bedroom apartments with single-attached garages accessible from the alley. One unit will be designed specifically for handicap accessibility. No common area will be included due to the size constraints of the lot. The committee is in the process of developing “Phase 1” which will include a projected look for the housing units, funding, cost analysis and if a separate organization will need to formed. The housing committee’s next meeting will be November 30 at 5:30 at the Care Center.
Business –Start up costs for the community housing project, removal of existing structure, site preparation and drawing up plans for a housing development will be the project we submit for the Golden West Grant application we received.
Mehlhaf moved to donate $200 to the Menno Community Club for Appreciation Day expenses. Schelske seconded; motion carried.
Teresa Anderson moved to hold our next meeting December 15 at 12 noon at the Open Door Café. Judy Headley seconded; motion carried.
Teresa Anderson stated she will be hosting an Open House in the near future to celebrate being in business for 25 years. Congratulations Teresa!
Ken Bertsch moved to adjourn at 12:50 p.m. Bender seconded; motion carried.
