SEFP REPORT: Nancy Larsen stated the Turner County Fair gives visibility to a wide range of individuals and businesses because of the display of client placards which line the SEFP fair booth. Many people visit the booth yearly and yield inquiries. The Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy Grant/Loan Program may become an ongoing program which means applications can be completed all year round, with no deadlines, if this happens. Larsen is actively working with a Menno client.
Committee Reports: Car Show – We had 67 entries for the car show this year. Winners of the People’s Choice Awards were the following: 1st Forrest Conrad, ’56 Ford Fairlane Victoria; 2nd Mylo Schnabel, ’57 Chevy; 3rd Kevin Hauger, ’03 Lotus Elise. Longest Distance: Pat Knodel, Alaska and Justin Mathiason, Milbank, 180 miles. The date for our car show is being moved to the 2nd Saturday in September because of conflicts with events in surrounding communities. The date for the car show for 2010 will be September 11.
Poker Run: Herrboldt stated there is a Poker Run scheduled for October 17; details to follow.
Housing – Judy Headley stated the housing committee met August 31 at 5 p.m. at the Care Center. A developer met with them and gave them suggestions and ideas. David Bender has become a member of the housing committee. We will fill out paper work to take part in a training and technical assistance program to assist us in using the Rural Housing Playbook to help us create and implement our own unique plan to meet our community’s housing needs. Their next meeting will be September 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Care Center.
Business – Bender moved, Haberman seconded, to advertise our commercial property on Highway 18 and Fifth Street and to ask $20,000 for each; motion carried. These properties are both listed on our web page under Economic Development and Real Estate.
