Menno Area Development Corporation
April 20, 2010
The Menno Area Development Corporation met for its regular meeting April 20, 2010 at the Open Door Café with the following present: Peg Thranum, Wilma Liebl, Darlene Mehlhaf, Teresa Anderson, Morna Anderson, Marsha Schelske, Bruce Anderson, Dale Weiss, Jerome Hoff, Donna Zeeb and Judith Headley.
President Dale Weiss called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m.
Marsha moved, Jerome seconded, to approve the agenda as presented; motion carried.
Jerome moved to approve the minutes as presented, Judy seconded; motion carried.
Marsha moved to pay $1000 toward the principal on the clinic loan, Judy seconded; motion carried.
Jerome moved, Darlene seconded, to approve the finance report; motion carried.
SEFP REPORT: Dale distributed the 2010 SEFP Annual Report which featured eight new businesses that were assisted by SEFP. Larsen was attending the development conference.
Housing – Judy reported Ella Bertsch was the winner of the $50 Menno Money from the housing survey. The committee is trying to obtain information on rents from surrounding communities, is still negotiating on land and working on plans. Their next meeting is April 26 at 5:30 at the Care Center.
Business – Weiss reported on the Midwest Development Conference he attended. He stated it was inspiring to listen to the innovative ways others had encouraged development in their communities and shared some of their stories: farmers market, organic farming, new clinic, and a volunteer thrift store.
Bruce moved to table a decision on whether or not to donate money for the fire department’s fund raiser for a new Jaws of Life until the next meeting. Wilma seconded; motion carried.
Our next meeting will be May 18 at 12 noon at the Open Door Café.
Marsha moved for adjournment at 12:45 p.m. Judy seconded; motion carried.
