Ken graduated in 1984 from the University of South Dakota Law School. He is also a LTC in the South Dakota Army National Guard and has earned a JAG Officer position.

The law firm began in 1926 with Albert Ulmer.  Thomas Hertz later joined the firm in 1971.  Kenneth D. Bertsch joined the law firm in 1987.
