INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR MENNO
There will be many activities taking place in Menno in observance of the Independence Day
holiday. 

Menno 4th of July Trivia

  • The 1st  July 4th parade was held in 1966 – the notice invited the public and prizes were provided.

  • Before that – there were two ballgames on the 4th of July.

  • Roger Mensch started managing the parade in 1972 – 2010 marks his 38th year.

  • The American Legion Rames-Bender Post 152 will sponsor a parade in Menno on Monday, July 4th, 2011, starting at 11:00 a.m. Roger Mensch, the Parade Director, announces that the theme of the 2011 parade will be "Sweet Land of Liberty".
    There is no pre-registration for the parade. If you wish to have your float judged, please be in line by 9 a.m. July 3. Registration is near the city/school gym in the 400 block of Fifth Street.

Don't forget to stop by The Menno Heritage Museum & Annex while in town:
Extended hours for July 4th weekend are July 4th from 9am to 6pm and July 5th & 6th from 1pm to 4pm.
The Museum will be serving Lunch on July 4th and Ice Cream and Pop throughout their extended hours from July 4th through July 6th.
No admission to the Museum.

Menno Band Day
September 30, 2011
10:00 a.m. on 5th Street


On Friday, September 30th area bands will return to Menno for the 4th Annual Menno Band Day. Fifteen  middle and high school bands will be participating in this street marching competition, with the Northern State University Marching Band providing guest performances throughout the day.

There are 21 bands participating this year.  15 schools will compete and Northern State University will be the Guest Performance for the day.

The parade starts at 10:00 A.M., with the middle school bands leading the way.

To make this event run smoothly, many volunteers are needed. If you are willing to provide assistance for this event, please contact Gwen Wenisch @ 605-387-5161.

Oktoberfest
October 22, 2011
Authentic German Meal and German Entertainment.

In the Menno City-School Auditorium

Entertainment provided by:
Entertainment this year is the Elk River (MN), German Band. The ten musicians have played at festivals in MN, SD, WI, including the New Ulm Heritage fest, the MN State Fair, the German fest in Milwaukee and have done a two-week performance tour of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Bavarian style German music for you listening and dancing pleasure will conclude the evening entertainment. There will be a grand door prize drawing for a trip to Branson to see the Christmas shows in November.

German buffet served.  The usual German meal of homemade sausage, German potato salad, sauerkraut, baked apples, assorted bars and all kinds of kuchen will be served at
